The Benson Latin American Collection is a specialized research library focusing on materials from and about Latin America and on materials related to Hispanics in the United States. The library holds over 700,000 books, periodicals, pamphlets, maps, microforms, and various other materials such as sound recordings, videocassettes, and posters.

Trinity University Library (Coates Library)

The Trinity University Library has a strong general collection of Latin American resources that includes materials from the Ronald Hilton collection, long associated with Stanford University. The library also houses a collection of facsimiles of Mexican codices, located in Special Collections.

San Antonio Central Library (Downtown)

Nicknamed the "Red Enchilada," this is an architectural masterpiece, designed by renowned Mexican architect Ricardo Legorreta. It houses "The Latino Collection," a reference collection of Latino and Chicano literature. Most of the books in this collection are also found on the shelves. The library also exhibits artwork by Latino artists and coordinates various lectures with Latino authors.

The University of the Incarnate Word Library (Mabee Library)

The University of the Incarnate Word holds an original 1830/48 edition of the nine volumes of Lord Kingsborough's Antiquities of Mexico, a collection of hand-colored facsimiles of Mexican codices. A number of illustrations from the books are included on this CD-ROM. This set was purchased from Sir Thomas Phillips by George Brackenridge and sold with his estate to the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word in 1897. They are housed in the Mitchell Special Collections Room along with the 1839 Laws and Decrees of the State of Coahuila and Texas, certain papers of Miss Adina de Zavala, and other items of interest to local and Latin American scholars. Advance arrangements with Library Director are needed for access to room.

The University of Texas at San Antonio (John Peace Library)

In addition to a strong general collection of Latin American resources, UTSA houses the Spanish Manuscript Collection of the Sons of the Republic of Texas (Special Collections and Archives) that include 16th-, 17th-, and 18th-century manuscripts from Spanish Colonial Mexico and Texas.
